Organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protest have declared a three-day mourning period to honour those who lost their lives during the protest across Nigeria.

The mourning period, which starts on Wednesday, August 7, and ends on Friday, August 9, is a tribute to those killed by security agents during the protest.

In a statement issued after a closed-door meeting in Lagos on Tuesday, the organizers urged all Nigerians and youths who support the struggle against hunger and hardship to observe the mourning period

They suggested ways to show solidarity, including wearing black attire, putting up graphics of the movement on social media profiles, and participating in collective actions such as social media handle posts, public symposium, and candlelight processions.

The decision to declare a mourning period was motivated by what they described as persistent attacks on peaceful protesters by security agents and state-sponsored thugs.

The organisers alleged that the police and thugs are working together to muzzle their voices, making Ojota unsafe for peaceful protesters.

The organisers condemned the attacks on peaceful protesters and law-abiding Nigerians, which they said was unprovoked and resulted in the death of at least forty persons and the arrest and detention of hundreds of others

They demanded a public apology from the police and the return of all mobile phones and valuables allegedly stolen from protesters.

The #EndBadGovernance protest, which started on August 1, has been marred by violence and bloodshed, with security agencies denying responsibility for the attacks.
