The Independent Investigative Panel on human rights violations by the operation of the defunct Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, in the FCT, has ordered the Inspector-General of Police, to produce a victim alleged to have been arrested by the Nigerian Police since the 1st of November, 2019.

Among the cases heard today, was that of alleged unlawful arrest and enforced disappearance of one Edward Leera, by the Nigerian Police on the 1st of November, 2019.

The petitioners say, they had challenged the unlawful and continued detention of Edward Leera in the high court of Rivers State and an order of immediate release of the victim from the police custody was granted, but was never obeyed by the police.

The six man panel headed by Justice Suleiman Galadima, therefore, ordered the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Adamu, to look into the matter and ensure that the victim is produced at the next adjourned date, November 19.

Other matters also heard by the panel, involved the alleged threat to life,  extra judicial killings, alleged abuse of office and arbitrary arrest which were adjourned because the respondents were not served.

The panel is to resume its public sittings on Tuesday November 17.
