Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State in the South East region of Nigeria has said that the ongoing Constitution Review Summit across the country is not only timely but inspiring, especially as it offers Nigerians a chance to correct long-standing structural imbalances in the 1999 Constitution.

The Governor stated this while receiving members of the Southeast Zonal Committee on Constitution Review, led by the Senate Deputy Whip and Chairman of the Southeast Public Hearing team, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Enugu on Thursday.

Governor Mbah expressed excitement over the opportunity for citizens to engage meaningfully with a process that touches the very core of Nigeria’s governance.

According to him, the idea of State policing is one of the most exciting proposals on the table, particularly for Enugu State, where the government has long advocated for it as a lasting solution to the security fragilities.

He also welcomed efforts to make education a fundamental right, as well as proposals to reserve legislative seats for women, restructure revenue allocation, and institutionalize rotational presidency, among others.
