Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has condemned the gruesome killing of two operatives of the Enugu State Police Command by suspected gunmen at the highbrow Independence layout in the capital city on Friday night.
Following an emergency security council meeting at the State Government House on Saturday, Governor Mbah announced a bounty of ten million Naira for anyone with useful information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The Governor emphasized that such actions cannot be condoned in Enugu State, assuring that his government would do everything necessary to hunt down, arrest, and bring to justice the perpetrators of what he called a “heinous” crime.
While extending his condolences to the families of the slain policemen, Mbah pledged government’s support for them.
Police authorities in Enugu State, South East Nigeria reported that the slain operatives serving in the Ogui Division with the metropolis, around 9:30 p.m on Friday, came under heavy attack while conducting stop and search along the Presidential Road, Independence Layout, Enugu city, by suspected gunmen operating in three black Lexus SUV jeeps.
The public has been urged to be on the lookout for those vehicles.
