A major breakthrough in electricity supply may be on the horizon for Enugu State, as Governor Peter Mbah says his administration has concluded plans to set up a 660 megawatts coal-fired power plant in the state.
The governor made this known while receiving members of the state’s organised private sector, noting that the project, expected to kick off by July, is key to delivering stable and affordable power for businesses.
Governor Peter Mbah told them that his administration, in the last three years has focused on building the fundamentals for economic growth, pointing to investments in road infrastructure and security which he says has helped restore investor confidence, with insecurity reduced significantly.
He added that his government is also making deliberate moves to ease doing business including harmonising taxes and now tapping into the state’s rich coal deposits to drive stable and affordable electricity.
At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed on the need for regular engagement with a proposal for quarterly meetings between the governor and the organised private sector to sustain dialogue and address emerging concerns.
