Environmental Rights activists have called on the Federal Government to stop the approval of the importation of Genetically Modified Organisms GMOs crops to the country, due to their health implications on humans and the environment.
Nigerians have also been advised to always check what they buy in the supermarkets, because most canned food have genetically modified organisms which experts say, are not good for human health.
Genetically Modified Organisms, GMOs are products of genetic engineering, also known as Genetic Modification, GM.

The technology allows scientists to create plants, animals and micro organisms by manipulating their genes in a way that is not possible through traditional or natural processes.
The Environmental Rights Activists say, this method of genetic manipulation of crops pose grave concerns for food systems.
It is against this backdrop that activists stressed the need for every Nigerian to always check what they buy in the market, due to the fact that most of the food we consume have GMOs which poses serious threats to human life and environmental safety.
The experts while profering solutions on alternative ways to achieve food security, want the relevant agencies to be up and doing in the discharge of their duties.
