Communities in and around Ukwa west local government Area in Aba, Abia State say they have been exposed to polluted water as a result of the activities of a Chinese Steel Company operating in the area.
The Chairman of Ukwa west traditional rulers council, Eze Augustine Dike, stated this in a petition to the Abia State government and made available to journalists during a peace meeting in Umuahia, the state capital.
The people of Umuahala-Obuzor and its environs say they have endured the unfair treatment and abuse of Nigerian workers as well as unwholesome practices of the Chinese company, the inner galaxy for too long.

The people of the host community say they are worried that despite their goodwill, the Chinese company has not made any developmental impact in the area.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti while responding to the petition said the operation of the Chinese company in Abia State will be evaluated on its good behaviour and adherence to the rules of engagement.
The Abia state chief executive however warned that his administration has resolved to broker peace between the host community and the company.
