Though Plastic Pollution is a global menace, it’s worst impact and big scale can be seen in Nigeria across streets,Gutters and sea shores of major cities like Lagos State.
To address this challenge that has continued to pose severe threats to the environment, Human health and death of Marine lives, hundreds of Volunteers, environmental Activists and government agencies came together at Alpha beach on Saturday in Lagos to remove Waste and Promote recycling awareness.
The exercise which took place simultaneously across fifteen other states across Nigeria according to the participants is in line with the United Nations decade of action to restore health to Nigeria’s environment.
Historically, Plastics and synthetic Organic Polymers were introduced to improve performance, reduce cost and make life easy for people,but under the prevailing circumstances, Plastic wastes have become a global nuisance with devastating consequences on the environment, Human health and aquatic lives
At Alpha beach in Lagos State, Volunteers took out time to remove waste and promote the message of recycling .
The beach clean up initiative which took place simultaneously in many other states across Nigeria is part of a renewed commitment to support the SDG target 13 which aims to strengthen Countries’ climate resilience.
