The European Commission has announced €235 million in humanitarian assistance to support vulnerable populations across West and Central Africa.
The funding will target people affected by conflict, food insecurity, displacement, and those in hard-to-reach areas.
Of the total, €33 million is allocated to Nigeria, €75 million to the Central Sahel, €16.6 million to Cameroon, €22 million to the Central African Republic, €72 million to Chad, €4.8 million to Mauritania, and over €6 million to coastal countries. An additional €6.4 million will fund regional projects.

Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, described the region as facing a “storm of humanitarian crises” driven by conflict, poverty, hunger, instability, and climate shocks.
She recalled witnessing displaced families in Chad who fled with nothing, stressing that for millions, humanitarian aid remains essential for survival—providing food, water, healthcare, shelter, and access to education.
The region continues to face overlapping crises, with conflict in the Central Sahel and Lake Chad Basin driving large-scale displacement, while climate pressures and governance challenges deepen vulnerabilities across affected communities.
