Nigeria’s economic future is secured because of its robust diplomatic and economic partnership with the European union.
Deputy speaker of Nigeria’s house of representatives Benjamin kalu, gave the assurance at the Europe day celebration, in Abuja.
European politicians started the process of building what we know today as the European Union With the aim of ending the frequent and bloody conflicts that culminated in the Second Word war. On November 1, 1993, the European union was formed. Since then, up till September, 2023, the EU’s bilateral trade with Nigeria has surpassed €45 billion.
Considering also that The EU is Nigeria’s largest trading partner, accounting for 20.9% of Nigeria’s global trade, speaker of Nigeria’s house of representatives, Benjamin kalu says continued collaboration between the EU and Nigeria will ensure a more inclusive, transparent, and effective governance structure in Nigeria.
Kalu also believes the EU’s commitment to the Climate-Smart Agriculture for Development
program, underlines its support for climate-smart, innovative agriculture with an improved agribusiness climate and equitable participation of women and youth.
Beyond these projects, the EU has also demonstrated its commitment to security and peace in the
Lake Chad region, mobilizing €2.5 billion since 2014 to support stabilization, peace, and security initiatives.
