The European Union Search for Common Ground Project is partnering with the Taraba State Government to fine-tune processes for the establishment of a peace commission in the State.
This is part of efforts to sustain the gains of the partnership by both parties to minimize conflict over natural resources, especially farmer/herder conflicts.
This meeting between representatives of the Taraba State Government and that of the European Union sponsored Search For Common Ground Project, targets the sustainability of peace through the transformation of conflict situations through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The project which has been at the forefront of promoting roundtable discussions to address farmer/herder conflicts in Taraba State:a phenomenon that kept reoccurring during harvests season.

The Taraba State Government has confirmed the drop in the incidents of such conflicts since it’s two years partnership with the Search For Common Ground Project.
As the project rounds up, it is advocating for the ownership of it’s peace and conflict resolution mechanisms by the Taraba State Government, through the establishment of a peace commission.
This meeting with the State’s Commissioner For Social Justice and reintegration, Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Food Security, Local Government Chairmen and the Taraba Forum for Farmer/Herder Relations is in line with strategies to sponsor a bill in the State House of Assembly, to that effect.
Participants at the meeting attested to the project’s mediatory role in the restoration of peace, and promotion of mutual trust between farmers and herders in Taraba State.
