The body of Late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, the first civilian governor of Lagos State and former Nigeria’s Minister of Works arrived at the Vaults and Gardens Cemetery in Ikoyi, Lagos at about 5.15 pm.
After lying in state at his Ilupeju home earlier, the body was then taken to his family house at Epetedo in Lagos Island before it was brought to its final place of rest.
His remains were interred amidst tight security. Only cameramen were allowed entry into the cemetery in an attempt to limit the number of people in keeping with the covid-19 safety protocol.
The burial rights began Friday morning with a pre-burial prayer, the ‘Fanazah’ offered in his Ilupeju home by a group of Islamic Clerics.
