Former President Goodluck Jonathan (in black) meets with Turaki-led PDP

The Kabiru Turaki- led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has expressed optimism over victory in the upcoming off- season elections in Ekiti and Osun States and other future elections.

The party said this when it briefed journalists after a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s former President, Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Turaki said former President Jonathan pledged his unalloyed support to the party’s operations as he expressed gratitude for the platform given to him by the PDP that made him whom he is.

Jonathan also reportedly emphasised that he is still a card carrying member of the PDP, as he believes in the ideals of the party and will continue to champion its growth and victory.

On questions about the crisis in the party and issues with factions as described by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the PDP says it will wait for the outcome of the Courts but insists that the electoral body was part of the party’s processes as regard the upcoming Ekiti and Osun Governorship polls and it has raised concerns with the new leadership of INEC.

The PDP assured Nigerians that it will continue to provide the needed opposition and question the policies and operations of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC over good governance.

The meeting was attended by the Turaki-led national working committee members, as well as some founding members, including the former governor of Niger state, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, and former minister of information, ProfessorJerry Gana among others.
