The Nigeria Medical Association, NMA in Cross River State says, there is an increase in signs and symptoms which lead to Covid-19 related deaths based on evidence obtained from patients at the public hospitals across the three senatorial districts of the state.

State NMA Chairman, Dr Agam Ayuk stated this while speaking in an exclusive Interview with AIT in Calabar, the state capital.

Agam says there in an increase in acute respiratory distress syndrome which leads to death of most of the patients. He insists that there is no accredited testing centre for Covid-19 in Cross River State as against what the Government wants the public to believe.

In her response, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu debunked the claim as a mere rumour, explaining that based on the data available in all the 18 local government areas, the death rate in 2020 is lower than in previous years.

There have been rumours of an increase in the death rate due to non-testing for Covid-19 in Cross River State. The State is the only one remaining in Nigeria without a confirmed case even though, NCDC has said there is no State without Covid-19 in the country.
