Some research experts have warned of an impending outbreak of cholera in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria amidst the ravaging flood if precautionary steps are not taken.
The experts who gave this warning during the presentation of recent research findings across some states of the country also called for improved handling and packaging of sachet water to minimise contamination.
The emergence of zoonotic diseases like Lassa fever, Yellow fever, Dengue fever and other re-emerging infections have become a public health burden threatening national security with a serious social and economic impact on Nigerians.

The situation is further worsened by the ravaging floods across the country that have rendered many homeless and prone to diseases.
It is to avert the impending danger that this team of scientists at the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research, NIMR embarked on this research.
Their findings also included a microbial analysis of sachet water in Lagos State and a call for proper handling and packaging.
Other suggestions given by the researchers include upscaling of Yellow fever vaccination for Nigerians and massive investment in vector control to reduce the burden of Malaria across the country.
