The police have confirmed the death of three children with four others injured from an explosion in Didango village in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, North-East Nigeria.
The police identified the three deceased children as Miracle Danjuma, 11 years old; Liyacheyan Bitrus, 12 years old and Kefas Bitrus, 11 years old. The first casualty Miracle Danjuma, is reported to be the son of the complainant, Danjuma Audu.
The Commissioner of Police, David Iloyannomon in a statement said a professional assessment of the scene proved that the explosion was as a result of a dane gun powder, which the children were playing with.
The statement says the anti-bomb unit of the Police Force was immediately deployed to the scene of the incident, and items found are pellets of the dane gun and not Improvised Explosive Device, IED or dynamite related as claimed in some quarters.
The Police have therefore refuted claims of an Improvised Explosive Device, IED explosion in the state.
