The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced a hybrid toll payment system at airport access gates following the temporary suspension of the nationwide cashless toll initiative ordered by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The arrangement allows motorists to make payments using both electronic platforms and cash while authorities work to improve the efficiency and reliability of the digital payment infrastructure.
FAAN says the move is aimed at reducing revenue leakages while ensuring smoother traffic flow at airport entrances.
The adjustment follows severe congestion at major airport toll gates in Lagos, which raised concerns about passengers missing flights and disruptions to operations.
Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, said the directive from the Federal Executive Council is not a cancellation of the policy but an opportunity to refine its implementation.
