The Nigerian railway corporation has ascribed thursday’s locomotive failure along the Ibadan-Lagos railway to a technical fault on the fueling system as against shortage of fuel, widely reported on the incident.
In a statement issued by the corporation on Friday, it insisted that there was sufficient fuel in the locomotive tank for the convenient and timely journey between Ibadan and Lagos; but in order to be proactive, the operators sourced for fuel under the suspicion that it was fuel shortage when the incident occurred.
It further tendered what it described as unreserved apology for the interruption in operation which led to an extension of the journey time schedule of the affected train.
While urging the passengers to keep fate with them, the NRC also said it appreciates the feedback from the patronisers of the rail transportation system as well as constructive comments from the public domain as they all gear towards efficient service delivery.
A train conveying passengers from Ibadan to Lagos abruptly stopped on Thursday morning leaving passengers stranded; a situation many believed, was due to fuel shortage .
