In the wake of renewed waves of insecurity across the country, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu, has warned commanders of training institutions that failure to train troops properly would harm the entire military system.
General Shaibu gave the charge during the official flag-off of the Nigerian Army 2026 Doctrine and Training Conference, organised by the Training and Doctrine Command, TRADOC in Minna, the Niger state capital.
At the beginning of the new year 2026, the country has witnessed renewed attacks by terrorists, especially in Niger State, North Central Nigeria.
This year’s Nigerian Army Doctrine and Training Conference could not have come at a better time, with its theme as “Enhancing Nigerian Army Operational Outcomes Through Effective Training and Doctrine Implementation.”
Lieutenant-General Shaibu, as special guest of honour at the event said the conference is an important step towards improving how the Army trains its officers and soldiers, especially to match the renewed attacks by the terrorists and charged the training institutions to do the needful.

He warned commanders of training institutions that failure to train troops properly would harm the entire military system, noting that realistic and practical training is the key to success on the battlefield and in security operations across the country.
While assuring that the Army Headquarters will focus on strong policies and mission-based training to transform the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptive, combat-ready and resilient force, Lieutenant-General Shaibu admitted that they must also improve cooperation with other security agencies and be ready to face modern security challenges.
TRADOC Commander, Major-General Peter Malla, said the conference marks the official start of training activities in all Nigerian Army institutions for 2026 and provides a platform for deep discussions on how doctrine and training can lead to better operational results.
He noted that Nigeria is facing changing and complex security threats, including terrorism and insurgency, and that the Army must remain agile, modern and well-prepared. He said the Nigerian Army Doctrine 2022 will continue to guide training and operations, but must also be reviewed regularly to match new threats.
General Malla added that the conference will not only help identify gaps in training but also find practical solutions to improve the Army’s performance in the field.
