The Governor acknowledged that they are the men and women who lay down their lives everyday so the rest of citizens can live in a safe, secured and united Nigeria.
Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike says Nigeria must put in place a frame work that will ensure that the families of members of the Nigerian armed forces who died in the line of duty are adequately catered and not left to suffer.
The Governor who was speaking at a special inter-denominational church service to mark the 2020 armed forces remembrance day celebration says the Nation’s fallen heroes deserve more than the yearly ritual of a remembrance programme held in their honour saying that the country must do everything to support them and their families.

Accompanied by his wife, deputy, members of his cabinet and other political leaders of the state, rivers state, Wike was in church to offer prayers to the memory and honor of the gallant members of the Nigerian armed forces who are either dead, living, serving or retired.
In his sermon, rector of the saint Peter’s Anglican church, Rumuepirikom deanery, venerable Chimela Samuel says members of the Nigerian military must emulate the virtues of Uriah in the bible who until his death remained a professional and faithful soldier.
And like venerable Samuel, Governor Wike says members of the Nigerian military must strive to be professional at all time. he therefore welcomed recent comments made by the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu about the conduct of security agencies during elections.
Moving on, Wike says the country must give priority to the welfare of members of the Nigerian armed forces. he assures that his administration will on its part do everything to support the country’s gallant heroes.
