The Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has recorded fresh operational gains with the elimination of two terrorists in Kebbi State and the rescue of 62 abducted persons in Zamfara State.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on January 21, 2026, by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, Sector 2, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.

According to the statement, the successes followed intelligence-driven operations executed in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups.

In Kebbi State, troops under Sector 2 laid an ambush for suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group around the Augie axis, close to the Kebbi–Sokoto boundary. The operation, which extended to Kerani village, resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists.

Items recovered at the scene included two motorcycles specially modified for long-distance movement, padded with thick blankets and fitted with accessories such as hand tyre pumps.

In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops stormed Munhaye Forest, a known bandit enclave linked to the notorious leader Kachalla Alti, following reports that captives were being held in the area.

Sixty-two kidnapped victims were rescued during the operation and have been secured, with arrangements underway to reunite them with their families.

Lieutenant Colonel Osoba said the latest operations reflect the sustained resolve of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terror networks, degrade criminal hideouts, and restore safety and stability across the North-West.
