Some Aggrieved farmers from five communities in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State have staged a peaceful protest over the alleged illegal detention of two traditional rulers in their community as well as a forceful takeover of their ancestral lands.
The protesters, baring placards with various inscriptions who stormed the Governor’s Office in Akure, all the way from Italemikan, Abusoro, Ateru, Igbomowo, and Uloko Agbonden communities.
Isaac Akinwande their spokesman alleged that some individuals used police and armed men to intimidate residents and arrest those who tried to resist the encroachment on their lands.
He further claimed that the two monarchs were unlawfully arrested and remanded in custody after refusing to cede any portion of their community lands.
The farmers, however, appealed to the state government and other relevant authorities to intervene, saying their only means of livelihood is now being threatened
The protesting residents later submitted a letter of protest to government officials present for urgent attention.
