The Federal Capital Territory Administration has announced that the current partial disruption in water supply across Abuja City Centre and some satellite towns is due to the ongoing major rehabilitation of two of the four water treatment plants.
The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, in a statement by his senior special aasistant on public communications and social Media, Lere Olayinka explained that the rehabilitation is necessary to ensure better service delivery to the residents.
The statement explained that two water treatment plants undergoing rehabilitation are part of a larger effort to improve the overall efficiency of the water supply system. Plants, which are currently producing below their installed capacity, will have their electro-mechanical equipment replaced and reinstalled which the administration say will require a temporary shutdown of the plants, resulting in a partial disruption of water supply.

To minimize the impact of the partial shutdown during the Sallah celebration, the FCT Water Board has devised a plan to temporarily put the two plants being rehabilitated into operation during the festive period. Additionally, the Water Board has developed a timetable for rationing water supply by alternating between Lines 1 and 2 of the Distribution network. Residents are urged to store enough water to cater for their needs during the festive period.
The Administration assured residents that the rehabilitation works will be completed within two weeks adding that the contractor is working around the clock to ensure that the works are concluded before the scheduled time.
