FCT authorities warn churches about “Cross Over Night” activities

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA has warned that its directive that all religious and social gatherings be limited to 50% of the hall capacity remains in force as the country continues to battle with the spread of Omicron variant of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Administration urges worship centres planning aelaborate New Year eve activities popularly called “Crossover Night” to obey instituted authorities and adhere strictly to the recommended preventive measures and health guidelines.

On the enforcement of Covid-19 guidelines, the Administration says the surge in new cases of Covid-19 is alarming, and it would not fold its arms and watch stressing that the ban on nightclubs and other social gatherings where physical distancing and non-pharmaceutical protocols can not be achieved, remains in force.

The Administration expressed concern that on the 26th of December alone the Territory recorded an alarmingly and disturbing 806 new Covid-19 cases, while on the 27th the new infections were 57.

The Administration noted that the report on Tuesday, the 28th of December had 80 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the nation’s capital.

The authorities therefore appeal to religious leaders and residents to ensure complete compliance with all the Covid-19 guidelines issued by the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat. They note that the enforcement team would be mobilised to track down violators who will be made to face the laws of the land.
