Polling unit in Bwari Area Council

Polling units across the Bwari and Kuje Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT recorded a mix of voter participation during Saturday’s local elections.

While some places saw an early surge of voters, many others experienced a noticeable decline in turnout.

This comes despite the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC ensuring the timely arrival of sensitive materials at most locations.

Unlike previous elections, the INEC showed improvement in its logistics deployment with smooth commencement of the elections.

In Bwari area council, the mood of the people was mixed in most polling units. While some expressed enthusiasm, others were indifferent expressing lack of trust in Nigeria’s electoral process.

In Kuje area council, there was appreciable turn out in many places but there were challenges for some voters who could not find their names in the register of their polling units.

Election observers commended the efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS compared to past elections but asked INEC to improve on easy accessibility to the voters list and also curb the scourge of voter apathy observed in the process.

With the election process concluded and results awaited, voters believe that their votes will count if the electoral umpire upholds transparency and credibility at the end of the entire process.
