A total of 850 road crashes occured in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT between January and November 19 2021.
FCT Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Samuel Ochi who disclosed this during the 2021 Special Marshal Sectoral Workshop says that the trend must be reversed.
The organisers say the workshop on “Volunteerism Beyond Ember Months:
The Role Of Special Marshals in Combating Road Traffic Crashes In Abuja” is for evaluation and stock taking to help improve service delivery in combating road traffic crashes in the country.
Ochi in his opening remarks said this year’s theme is apt considering the rate of road crashes in the Federal Capital Territory and its attendant consequences.

Commanding Officer in charge of FCT and Niger State, Jonas Agwu lamented that appropriate speed on specific routes in the FCT are not properly posted to help guide road users.
The Corps is hopeful that after this Sectoral Workshop and a postmortem of activities in 2021, critical areas like redressing speed limit in the FCT and Niger, cutting down on driving under the influence of alcohol and the use of seat belt will form the focus of campaign in 2022.
Volunteerism which is what the Special Marshals engage in involves donating time and energy for the benefit of other people in the community as a social responsibility rather than for any financial reward.
