The Senate wants the Federal Character Commission, FCC to comply with the provision of the constitution establishing it by always seeking approval from it in the discharge of all of its activities.
This was as the upper legislative chambers on Monday through its Committee on Federal Character Commission screened the Chairman-Designate, Muheeba Dankata from Kwara State.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Character Commission, Senator Danjuma Laah, says the FCC has become “rotten” and in urgent need of reform to make it function more effectively.
He said the Committee was not happy with reports about the activities of the FCC and called on the new members of the Board to change the narrative.
An Insurance broker and banker, Dankata is the first female to be nominated for the Chairmanship of the FCC.
Senator Uche Ekwenife (Anambra Central) welcomed the nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari; and based on her recommendation, the Senate Panel promptly allowed the nominee to “take a bow and go”.
The lawmakers however advised the nominee to ensure equity and fairness and seek the approval of the Committee in all of her activities.
Six nominees of the Board of the Federal Character Commission were screened from a list of 38 persons forwarded by President Buhari last week.
