Federal Executive Council Steps Down Memos Seeking Approval Of Various Projects

The executive council of the federation has stepped down memos presented by some ministries seeking council’s approval for the execution of various projects

President Bola Tinubu at the council meeting held this Wednesday at the presidential villa in Abuja, told the affected Ministries, Departments & Agencies to review and reconcile projects in accordance with the public procurement act and re-submit for consideration

The federal govt has also written to the
Nigerian press council to investigate a national newspaper over an alleged misleading publication on the recently signed Samoa agreement .

A standing ovation was held in honour of president Bola Tinubu who was over the weekend re elected as chairman, authority of Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS

The Council later went into a closed-door session where cabinet members led by the president had an extensive deliberation on a wide range of issues of national concern

At a joint media briefing after the meeting, Minister of information and national orientation Mohamed Idris told Journalists that all projects that required variations were stepped down by council for reconsideration in line with current priorities of government, project viability and availability of funds.

Council also considered the need to review the nation’s procurement act which has been in operation since 2007.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu and his counterpart in the Justice ministry shed more light on why it has become imperative to review of the act

A recent news report accusing government of signing a deal that supports lGTB also drew the attention of council.

Minister of information and national orientation Mohammed Idris confirmed that government has already petitioned the Nigerian press council as the Attorney- general of the federation Lateef Fagbemi said the federal government is conscious of press freedom and appealed to the media to be fair in their reportage

Ministers whose members were stepped down are expected to do a thorough review and re-submit their proposals to council.
