The Nigerian Government has pledged its determination to ensure safe blood transfusion in medical facilities across the country to reduce the fatalities resulting from unsafe transfusion during emergencies or surgeries.
The coordinating Minister of Health and Social Services Ali Pate, who was represented at the Launch of the Safe Blood transfusion project, held at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano said, safe blood transfusion is “a life line” that should be given serious priority.
In the last ten years, Andreas, who specializes in transfusion medicine, immune-hematology and hemostasis with his colleagues from the Greifswald University Hospital Germany, has been leading Nigerian hematologists and clinical researchers at the Aminu Kano Teaching hospital in ensuring safe blood transfusion in Nigeria.
The launch of the Safe Blood Project, an initiative made possible by the National Blood Service Agency and the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital is the outcome of their success story, a development the minister of health who was represented says, it aligns with the federal government’s health policy.
The Director General, National Blood Service Agency says, the safe blood project has a multiplier effect for researchers, interns and clinical specialists across Nigeria.
The National Blood Service Agency plans to domesticate the outcomes of the project to every state in order to make access to safe blood easy in time of medical needs and emergency
