The Nigerian government says, it is working towards making Nigeria self-sufficient in good quality seed distribution to farmers in order to improve food production in the face of coronavirus pandemic.
Minister of agriculture Mohammed Nanono who stated this in Kaduna during the flag-off of input distribution to farmers as part of the measures against the effect of COVID-19, says the nation will not allow the pandemic to affect the production of food in this farming season.
The minister says the restriction of movement due to COVID-19 has negatively impacted on food supply chains, and since farmers are the most vulnerable, it is imperative for the government to support them with the much needed inputs to increase food production.
In their reactions, the farmers, had appealed to government to sustain its policies on agriculture for effective productivity.
The project is also targeting 35% of women farmers in line with the national gender plan and policies to ensure increased opportunities for women.
