Federal Government to pay arrears of new minimum wage before December 31

The Federal Executive Council Wednesday directed that arrears of the new minimum wage be paid on or before the 31st of December, 2019.

This was part of the outcome of the weekly federal executive council meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa Abuja.

Council also approved over one billion naira for the award of contract for the procurement and installation of communication equipment in aviation training college control towers of Zaria and Katsina state

With President Muhammadu Buhari away in Sochi- Russia, to attend a three day inaugural Russia-Africa summit and economic forum, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo chaired the weekly federal executive council meeting at the presidential villa.

Addressing state house correspondent after the meeting, the minister of labor and productivity Chris Ngige said council directed that the new minimum wage  be paid in arrears from April 18 2019 when it was signed into law.

Minister of aviation Hadi Sirika said council approved over one billion naira for the award of contract for the procurement and installation of communication equipment in aviation training college control towers of Zaria and Katsina state.

The minister of communication and digital economy Isa Patami and the minister of science and technology Ogbonaaya Onu also spoke on the approvals given to their various ministries by council.

The minister of communication and digital economy informed the media of the outright cancellation and not suspension of the plan by telecommunication companies to impose a new charge on customers who use its short codes to access banking services.
