The newly established Federal Medical Centre, (FMC) Kafanchan, in Kaduna State is set to commence full operations by September this year.

Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate, disclosed this to newsmen in Kafanchan, after inspecting the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital to assess its readiness for the final takeover by the federal government.

President Bola Tinubu recently directed the conversion of the Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre, following Kaduna State Government’s decision to transfer the facility to the Federal Government.

The Director of Health Services, Jimo Salaudeen, representing the Minister of Health, led a ministerial team to inspect the hospital’s infrastructure, assess its workforce, and identify areas requiring upgrades, to meet FMC standards.

Salaudeen expressed satisfaction with the facility’s physical structure and the available land for future expansion.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Healthcare Services, Amos Gwamna, described the FMC as a significant development for the area and urged the Federal Ministry of Health to fast-track the process by reducing the six-month timeline, citing the region’s urgent healthcare needs.

The newly appointed medical director, Shehu Haruna, pledged to serve diligently and called for staff cooperation to ensure the hospital’s success.
