Normality is not likely to return to the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti anytime soon as the face-off between the management of the institution and the lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, deepens over the alleged refusal of the institution’s management to meet their demands.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. Dayo Oladeleye, told reporters in Ado Ekiti that the Chairman of ASUP, Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti chapter, Dr. Olabisi Olashehinde, was using the union to create a crisis in a bid to make his administration unpopular.
Dr.Oladeleye, who said there is no point for the protest carried out by the lecturers, described the protest as a deliberate attempt to dent his image.
The Rector further explained that the management had started meeting the lecturers welfare claims since Friday.

Dr. Olasheinde, the ASUP Chairman, however, debunked Oladeleye’s claims, adding that the protest was necessary as previous talks with the management had yielded nothing positive.
He said the polytechnic management failed to pay the lecturers their Continuous Education Centre’s entitlements for first semester of 2019/2020 academic session and the accumulated de-migration arrears and cooperative deductions.
The ASUP Chairman insists the ongoing second-semester examination for the 2019/2020 academic session will not continue until their demands are met.
The higher institution’s entrance gate was locked by the protesting lecturers, denying students, expected to continue their second-semester examinations, access into the school premises.
