The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has given the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU up to January 5 to end the prolonged strike by university lecturers or risk massive student protests across the country.
NANS President, Sunday Asefon who stated this in Katsina, while appreciating the rescue and reuniting of the abducted Government Science Secondary School Kankara boys with their families threatened to mobilise students to block all major high ways in the country.
Asefon said they relocated to Katsina State upon receiving the news of the abducted school boys and thanked the Federal and Katsina State Governments for the quick facilitation of their release.
He urged the students to put behind them the ugly incident and focus on their studies.
The President of the students body also issued an ultimatum of January 5 to both the Federal Government and ASUU to find common ground as soon as possible, or risk massive protest by students nationwide.
They are also calling on both parties to include a representative of the students’ body during the next negotiation, so as to enable them to witness the discussion with a view to getting first-hand information about the progress achieved during the talks.

The national students’ body, therefore, said they will use their diplomatic engagement with the authorities and struggles to reject the 168% hike in fees for new students of the Lagos State University and the reinstatement of all students suspended or expelled unjustifiably across the 36 states of Nigeria.
