Nigeria has again demonstrated its resolve against transnational organized crime with the successful arrest and repatriation of a wanted Chinese fugitive, Dai Qisheng.

In a press statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, operatives of the International Criminal Police Organisation INTERPOL, through National Central Bureau, Abuja, tracked and apprehended Dai Qisheng, a notorious gang leader wanted in China for violent organized crimes.

The fugitive, declared wanted by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County, Guizhou Province, had fled his country in 2024 to evade justice and sought refuge in Nigeria. After days of surveillance, police operatives arrested him in Abuja on the 8th of August, 2025.

He was later repatriated on the 15th of August 2025, to Beijing, under police-to-police cooperation facilitated by INTERPOL and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

The Nigeria Police Force says the move sends a strong message that the country will not serve as a hiding place for international criminals.

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, emphasized that the operation highlights the importance of global intelligence-sharing and collaboration in dismantling criminal networks across borders.
