The Academic Staff union of universities, ASUU and the Nigerian Government are about now expected to resume talks, at the instance of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.
On Monday, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Sunday Asefon led a protest to the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, requesting to be part of FGN/ASUU talks and seeking an end to the ongoing ASUU strike within 24 hours.
Even though the Minister welcomed NANS into his office, some requests by the students were left unanswered by the minister.
This action however provoked the students, who subsequently demanded the Minister’s sack, describing him as incompetent.
ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke says all efforts to resolve the ongoing impasse with the Nigerian Goverment are welcomed, but it will not accept NANS to the negotiation table with the Federal Government.

He said future generations will always remember NANS for fighting independently on behalf of the students.
ASUU declared a one month warning strike on February 14, to reject the professorship appointment to the minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Pantami.
ASUU is also unhappy over Government’s delay in adopting the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS in place of Intergrated Payroll and personnel information system, IPPIS as well as non release of Revitalisation funds and non-renegotiation of the 2009 FG/ASUU Agreement among other grievances.
