‎‎‎ FG, China, Private Sector Push For Ultra High Speed Rail System

‎Nigeria is set to develop Africa’s first Ultra High speed rail system, aimed at revolutionizing the nation’s transportation network, promote adoption of renewable energy, while stimulating economic growth.

‎At the presentation of proof of funding by major key players in the project in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the federation, Senator George Akume described the project as critical to the nation’s economic recovery
‎
‎It would be the first of its kind in Africa, and a boost to Nigeria’s rail transportation system when a 4000-kilometre, 5-lane ultra-high-speed rail network, cutting across the federation is completed.

The Nigerian government through the SGF, Ministers of relevant Ministries, De SADEL consortium and their Chinese partners, are playing key roles in actualizing the multi-billion-dollar
‎ project, hence, acknowledgement of the proof of the project’s funding

‎The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali and the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, say the Federal Government is ready to support the initiative
‎
‎No timeline has been set for commencement of the project, estimated to cost over 60 billion dollars and to be constructed in phases.
