The National Population Commission, NPC, has introduced the 2024 Nigeria Verbal and Social Autopsy Study in Abia State designed to provide insight into the causes of under-five and maternal deaths.
Federal Commissioner from Abia State, Emma Eke, while briefing journalists in Umuahia said the 2024 “VASA’” study is a follow up to the 2023 to 2024 Nigeria demographic and health survey concluded earlier this year.
NPC in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health is implementing the nationwide study to provide valuable information that will help shape health policies and interventions aimed at reducing preventable deaths.
Eke explained that the study will be conducted in selected communities to gather information surrounding maternal and child deaths.
Office of the wife of Abia State Governor assured the Commission of all necessary cooperation to ensure a successful conduct of the assignment.
The nationwide exercise will hold in Abia State between December 2 and 29 when trained data collectors will visit households to conduct interviews with family members.
