The Colleges Of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU has received commendation from the minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, for not considering demonstrations and industrial action as last options in its agitations, amidst ongoing protests and strike threats by university-based unions.
The minister gave the commendation at the 2025 teach-the-teachers’ Day commemoration and scholarship to indigent students
The last few days have been intensed for Nigeria’s education minister, Tunji Alausa as activities have been obstructed in most university campuses by a nationwide protests called by non-teaching staff unions; SSANU and NASU
The unions are demanding proper disbursement of N50 billion earned allowances to all four university-based unions and the renegotiation of 2009 agreements, among others.

The issue is further compounded as ASUU threatens to begin nationwide strike by next week over Federal Government’s lip service to its demands
However, the education minister joins education stakeholders at a conference on teacher education to commend the colleges of education academic staff union, COEASU, for not considering demonstrations and strikes as options over certain unmet demands.
To further encourage teacher-trainees, scholarships were given to indigent colleges of education students across six zones
The event was also used to inaugurate the newly elected COEASU President, Ahmed Baza, and executive members at the expiration of Smart Olugbeko’s tenure
