The Federal Government appears to be walking the talk about the establishment of the proposed 109 integrated farm estates across Nigeria with the commissioning of the facility in Jakusko Local Government Area of Yobe State, North-East Nigeria.

This second farm estate to be set up this year is to generate N1.1 million daily from egg sales and over N8 million monthly from sales of day-old chicks alone.

Sitting on 20 hectares of land, the Jakusko integrated farm estate houses 10 poultry pens that contain 30,000 birds and an incubation centre which is expected to produce about 250,000 boilers annually.

Executive Secretary, National Agricultural Land Development Authority, NALDA, Paul Ikonne says the farm has the capacity to produce 850 crates of eggs daily. Some eggs will be incubated for the production of day-old chicks to be supplied to other poultry houses across the country.

While commissioning the integrated farm estate, Senate President Ahmed Lawan expressed optimism that the project will promote the name of the community, and cause the establishment of poultries around the local government and the state.

While the 30,000 birds will be used for egg and meat production for the 30 benefiting farmers, it was gathered that youths from the community are the first set of beneficiaries to be engaged in the farm.

Ikonne says similar farm estates will be established using local comparative advantage in each of the 109 senatorial districts in Nigeria.
