FG Commits To Addressing Environmental Challenges, Others

The Managing Director, National Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, Abubakar Yelwa says, the Commission remains committed to addressing the challenges faced by the hydro-electric power producing communities particularly in areas of infrastructure development, environmental protection including education and healthcare.

The managing director gave the indication in Patigi local government area of Kwara State while handing over newly constructed Patigi Erosion and Flood Control Project to the community.

According Abubakar Yelwa, the Commission’s goal is not just to mitigate problems but to create sustainable solutions that empowers the communities to thrive.

He urged the community to take advantage of the flood control project to safeguard their community.

In his remarks, the Secretary to the government of the Federation, George Akume who was represented by Nigeria’s Minister of Youth, Jamila Bio-Ibrahim, noted that the project is a paradigm shift on how the country approach urban planning and environmental protection.

Patigi community and a host of others in the Kwara north senatorial district have faced serious flooding challenges in the past but with the intervention by the Federal government through the N-HYPPADEC, the end to long years of suffering by the community may have come to an end.
