The Nigerian government has concluded plans to commence the first phase of 50,000 housing units across the 36 states of Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda, to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit, currently standing at about 28 million.
Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Housing Authority, Oyetunde Ojo, revealed this at a three-day management retreat in Kaduna, highlighting strategies for its implementation.
The three-day retreat by the management of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) focused on providing solutions to Nigeria’s housing deficit, currently estimated at about 28 million.
This strategic meeting aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing Agenda of providing safe, affordable, and secure housing to address the country’s housing crisis.
Oyetunde Ojo, Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Housing Authority, highlighted challenges affecting the authority’s performance over its 50 years of existence, including a paucity of funds and political interference.
He emphasized that the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda of the President has brought about new expectations, targets, and strategies to address the nation’s housing deficit.
Kaduna State Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, conveying Governor Uba Sani’s message, noted that enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Federal Housing Authority in achieving its mandate would require collaborative efforts.
The FHA announced the completion of over a thousand housing units in urban and rural areas of Abuja, to be commissioned by December.
It also noted that arrangements have been concluded to commence the first phase of the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme across other states in the country.
