In an effort to build sustainable partnernerships between the school, parents, community leaders, and the government, the National senior secondary education commission has begun establishing school-based management committees, SBMCs
In an interaction with a cross section of SBMCs in north West state of Jigawa, the Executive Secretary of the National senior secondary education commission, Iyela Ajayi said SBMCs are vital platforms for the community to engage actively in the management and development of schools.
The executive secretary said that through the initiative, governmentt can ensure that the voices of local communities are heard and that they are empowered to contribute to decisions that directly impact the education of their children.

He noted that the idea behind SBMCs is not just to foster community involvement but also to ensure accountability and transparency in the management of schools, to ensure that resources meant for education are used effectively and equitably.
The National senior secondary education commission team also paid a courtesy visit to the Jigawa state governor, where he was told that SBMCs are also designed to play a key role in addressing some of the security challenges which also impact on the country’s education.
