President Bola Tinubu has approved the extension of the yuletide free train service till Sunday, January 7, 2024, to allow more Nigerians who are yet to return to their stations take advantage of the incentive.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Minister of Transportation Sen. Saidu Alkali on Thursday.

The statement indicates that over 163,000 Nigerians had so far benefitted from the initiative, initially slated to end on Thursday January 4, 2024.

The public is advised to note that the 3-day extension applies to all three routes currently serviced by the Nigerian Railway Corporation, namely; the Lagos- Ibadan, Itakpe – Warri, and the Abuja-Kaduna railways.

Recall that the Federal Government had announced a free train service on all serviced routes and 50 percent rebate on road transportation from December 21, 2023 to January 4, 2024 on specific routes to reduce the burden of high cost of public transportation during the just concluded Christmas and New Year holidays.
