The National Population Commission, NoPC, has flagged off the house numbering and household listing for the trial census with President Muhammadu Buhari’s house as the 001 in Daura, Katsina State, North-West Nigeria.

NPoC Executive Chairman, Nasir Kwarra said, with President Buhari graciously accepting to participate in the Trial Census it goes a long to show Nigerians the importance of the April 2023 Population and Housing Census.

Katsina State and Daura Local Government Area were chosen among five other states and nine local government areas including the FCT to conduct trial census as “dress rehearsal” ahead of the April 2023 Housing and Population Census.

Kwarra says the local government areas selected from the six states of the six geo-political zones, have borders with other neighbouring countries and are having both urban and rural settings.

Kwarra said, the importance of the dress rehearsal is that, it will enable the NPoC to test all the instruments and methodologies adopted, the functionaries whether they are capable of carrying out the exercise and their ability to access hard to reach areas as well as the entire census planning implementation.

He further added that, the test will also include logistics, maps created whether they are functional so that adequate arrangements and checks can be made before the April 2023 Population and Housing Census proper.

Kwarra therefore appealed to Nigerians to give the staff and functionaries of the Commission maximum cooperation so that the they can have accurate data to submit to government for proper planning and distribution of the dividends of democracy.
