The Federal Government has given one week ultimatum to the contractor handling the Port Harcourt /Aba section of the Port harcourt /Enugu Highway to make it motorable for road users.

Minister of Works Dave Umahi gave the directive during a working visit to some project sites in Rivers state.

The Port Harcourt/ Aba section of the highway remains a critical gateway connecting the South South and South Eastern states.

The visit is the seventh time the minister is inspecting the road which underscores the importance of the intervention by President Bola Tinubu in response to the concerns of road users following its deplorable state.

The minister who is happy with the quality of work done by the contractor however directed immediate work on the failed portions from Port harcourt to Aba within one week to make it motorable.

At the Eleme/ Onne axis of the East /West Road, the minister expressed concerns over the slow pace of work and directed officials of the federal ministry of Works to update him weekly as the job progressed and warned them against the consequences of the impending rainy season

The minister was accompanied on the road inspection by former Senate president Anyim Pius Anyim and former Peoples Democratic Party PDP spokesman Olisa metuh who commended the president’s intervention on roads in the region.

So far about five point seven of the fifteen kilometres failed portions of the road have been excavated with interventions to make it motorable.
