The Federal Government has inaugurated the Inter-Ministerial Committee on 2024 Democracy Day celebration.

Speaking while inaugurating the Committee on Wednesday in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, emphasized the importance of the commemoration of Democracy Day as a period of reflection on the gains of democracy in the country.

He explained that the annual Democracy Day would provide a platform through which the heroes of the nation’s democracy would be celebrated.

He said : “As you are aware, Democracy day was hitherto celebrated on 29th of May, however, the immediate past Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had deemed it fit to reverse it to June 12th in honor of late Chief M.K.O Abiola, who was the adjudged winner of the 1993 Presidential election and lost his life in the process. The celebration also affords the government the opportunity to showcase its achievements in dealing with myriads of challenges in social and economic sectors confronting the nation.
