The Taraba State Government is requesting for the establishment of Veterinary Diagnostic Centre, to aid the large-scale livestock production by farmers in the state.

The request was made when the State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security received a Federal Government assessment team on the outbreak of Hermorraghic Septicaemia livestock disease, on Mambilla Plateau where over 1,000 cows have been killed already.

Despite the immediate intervention by the Taraba State Government, through vaccination and treatment of affected animals, it called for the support of the Federal Government, which led to this visit by an assessment team, from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The delegation was led by the representative of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Ajani Oyetunji, who said they would be visiting the Mambilla Plateau, which is the epicentre of the outbreak, for assessment.

He also commended the proactiveness of the Taraba State Government in containing the disease, and highlighted the intervention of the Federal Government in combating it.

Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor on Agriculture and Food Security, Zanau Maikasuwa, received the Federal Government delegation, on behalf of the State Government.

He appreciated the Federal Government and acknowledged the receipt of supplies to combat the Hermorraghic Septicaemia outbreak, and further requested for the setting up of a Veterinary Diagnostic Centre in the state, as it is into large-scale livestock farming.

The second phase of the intervention to contain the Hermorraghic Septicaemia outbreak in three local government areas in the state, is expected to begin with the arrival of the assessment team from the Federal Government.
