For the third time, organised labour has rejected a N60,000 minimum wage proposal by the Federal Government, from an initial N57,000.
Also, the organised labour has reduced its demand from N497.000 to N494,000 as the new national minimum wage.
For now, the minimum wage tripartite committee has adjourned indefinitely, probably to make room for President Bola Tinubu’s one-year in office celebrations.
All eyes are now on the organised labour if it will downtool on June 1, after the expiration of its May 31 ultimatum for the announcement of a new national minimum wage.
In the meantime, a labour leader who pleaded anonymity said the organised labour is likely not to embark on strike since the federal government has already made an announcement of its proposal, and what is left is for parties to agree on the actual living wage.
