Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing energy efficiency with the launch of the National Industrial Decarbonization Programme (NIDP) by the federal government.
At the programme held in Abuja, Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal explained that the initiative will integrate innovative, environmentally sustainable technologies into the industrial sector, promoting energy efficiency while reducing operational costs and environmental impacts.
Industry leaders and policymakers discussed strategies to achieve a more sustainable industrial sector in Nigeria.
Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, emphasized the critical role of the NIDP, noting that the industrial sector is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, which drive climate change and environmental degradation.
Other Speakers highlighted the need to adopt homegrown, innovative technologies and facilitate access to carbon financing for industries, measures that reduce environmental impacts while supporting Nigeria’s 2060 net-zero emission target.
The forum also focused on fostering collaboration among stakeholders, strengthening existing environmental regulations, and incentives to ensure successful implementation of the NIDP, enhance sustainable industrial growth while aligning with global climate goals.
